Lesson Overview

1.1 – Identifying Your Role in the Family System: Start by noticing what you usually do during everyday moments, like who reminds people of plans, who calms arguments, and who takes charge when things feel messy. Pay attention to your habits: do you fix problems, avoid them, or translate for others? List three strengths you bring to the family and three patterns that sometimes cause stress. Ask yourself what you learned growing up about being helpful, quiet, funny, or responsible. Track one week of moments when you feel pulled into a role too quickly. Practice pausing, taking a breath, and choosing a response instead of reacting. Share one small boundary you want to try, like “I can help after dinner.” Celebrate tiny wins and reflect on how changing one habit can shift the whole system. Stay curious, not critical, and keep notes to see progress over time.
