Lesson Overview

1.1 – What Is Stress? Defining the Mental and Physical Experience: Stress is the body’s signal that something feels challenging or demanding, and it can show up in both the mind and the body at the same time. It may feel like pressure in your chest, a racing heart, a busy mind, or a sense that everything is too much all at once. Stress can be triggered by school, work, relationships, or changes that feel out of your control. Your brain sends messages to protect you, and your body reacts by getting ready to handle a tough situation. Sometimes that reaction gives you energy and focus that helps you get things done. Other times, stress makes it hard to think clearly or stay calm when you need it most. You might notice stress in tight muscles, headaches, stomach issues, or trouble sleeping. Stress can also affect your mood, leading to frustration or worry that seems to come from nowhere. Everyone experiences stress, and it doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. Learning to understand stress gives you power to respond in healthier ways.
