1.3 – Needs vs. Wants: Making the Distinction: Needs are the things you must have to survive and stay healthy, like food, water, shelter, clothing, and basic medical care. Wants are things that are nice to have and make life more enjoyable, like new shoes when you already have some, video games, or eating out often. Learning the difference helps you make smarter choices so you don’t run out of money for what matters most. When you put needs first, you build a strong foundation that keeps you safe and comfortable. Wants can still be enjoyed, but only after needs are fully covered. Sometimes wants can feel like needs because advertisers and friends influence what you think you should have. That’s why slowing down and thinking before spending helps you stay in control. The better you get at understanding needs versus wants, the easier it becomes to save, plan, and feel proud of your decisions.
