Lesson Overview

2.9 – Antibiotics and Antivirals: Antibiotics fight bacteria, while antivirals fight viruses. They work in very different ways, even though both treat infections. Antibiotics will not help with colds or the flu. Taking them when not needed can make bacteria stronger, called resistance. Finishing the full course helps clear the infection completely. Antivirals shorten illness time or prevent outbreaks from returning. Both need timing and consistency to work best. Side effects like stomach upset can be managed with food or water. Storing them properly keeps them effective. Using them wisely keeps your body and community safer from resistant germs.
