Lesson Overview

4.4 – The Role of Hugs and Safe Touch in Calmness: Hugs offer one of the most natural ways to soothe the nervous system. They release oxytocin, often called the “bonding hormone,” which promotes warmth and safety. Safe touch, when welcomed, helps people feel grounded and connected. A gentle hand on the shoulder or a supportive embrace can reduce loneliness and fear. It reminds the brain that it is not in danger. Establishing boundaries is essential so touch remains comforting, not intrusive. Within those limits, touch becomes a language of care and stability. Regular safe contact nurtures emotional security. It strengthens relationships while training the body to relax. Hugs teach the body that connection equals safety.
