Lesson Overview

5.4 – Avoiding Scents That Trigger Anxiety: Some smells can cause unease or tension without you realizing it. Strong synthetic perfumes, cleaning chemicals, or smoke can overload the senses. These odors may raise stress hormones and remind you of uncomfortable situations. Avoiding anxiety-triggering scents starts with paying attention to what feels off in your body. If a smell makes your stomach tighten or breathing shallow, it’s a signal. Replace harsh scents with neutral or comforting ones whenever possible. Try fresh air, natural oils, or mild candles instead. In shared spaces, advocate for scent-free policies to protect emotional balance. The goal is not total avoidance but awareness—choosing scents that support calm instead of conflict.
