1.10 – When to Re-Dispute or Use a Method of Verification (MOV) Request: Sometimes a bureau verifies an error even when you know it’s wrong. That’s when you can use a Method of Verification (MOV) request to demand proof of how they verified it. Under the FCRA, you have the right to ask for details on who they contacted and what evidence was used. If they can’t produce that proof, you can re-dispute the item with stronger documentation. Sometimes it takes two or three rounds to get a result. Each new dispute should include new evidence or clarifications so it’s not rejected as a duplicate. Be polite but persistent. Keep records of every letter and response you receive. The MOV request shows the bureau that you’re paying attention and won’t accept lazy answers. It’s a powerful tool for serious credit repair efforts. When used properly, it can force the bureau to remove items they can’t legally prove. Over time, this builds a more accurate and trustworthy credit report. Your goal is always truth, not revenge. By using your rights wisely, you turn a system that once felt against you into one that finally works for you.
