Lesson Overview

1.6 – Recognizing Cultural Assumptions in Conversations: Every person carries invisible assumptions shaped by upbringing, religion, and environment. These assumptions guide how you interpret tone, intention, and politeness. When someone behaves differently, you might see them as rude or strange when they are simply following another norm. Recognizing your own filters helps prevent snap judgments that block connection. Instead of reacting, pause and ask what cultural logic might be behind the behavior. Awareness turns conflict into curiosity and confusion into learning. Cultural humility means accepting that your way is one of many valid approaches. When you start noticing your biases, you grow more adaptable in diverse settings. Conversations become richer when difference is viewed as data, not threat. Seeing assumptions clearly frees you to communicate with genuine respect and emotional intelligence.
