Lesson Overview

7.2 – Recognizing Personal Biases: Self-awareness is the first step toward fair communication. Recognizing personal bias means noticing patterns in your reactions—who you trust, interrupt, or dismiss without cause. Biases aren’t always malicious; they’re shortcuts the mind uses to process complexity. Reflection exposes where those shortcuts limit understanding. Identifying triggers helps prevent automatic responses that harm connection. Journaling, feedback, or diversity training can reveal blind spots hidden by habit. True growth begins when curiosity replaces denial. Acknowledging bias doesn’t make someone flawed—it makes them responsible. Self-recognition builds integrity and empathy. The more aware you become of internal filters, the clearer your perception of others becomes. Recognizing bias within yourself ensures communication grows grounded in fairness, respect, and conscious choice.
