Lesson Overview

2.43 – Sodium, Water, and Strength Output: Sodium and water play a major role in muscle contraction and nerve signaling. When sodium is too low, muscles may feel weak and unresponsive. Low sodium can also cause dizziness, poor pumps, and early fatigue during workouts. Water helps deliver nutrients and supports electrical signals between nerves and muscles. Dehydration reduces strength before thirst becomes obvious. Many people mistakenly restrict sodium and water, thinking it helps body composition. In reality, proper hydration often improves performance and muscle fullness. Sodium helps muscles contract smoothly and repeatedly during hard sets. This is especially important for high-volume or sweaty training sessions. Too little sodium can make workouts feel harder than they should. This lesson teaches lifters to respect electrolyte balance as part of performance. When sodium and water are balanced, strength output becomes more consistent. Proper hydration supports both safety and progress in the gym.
