Lesson Overview

1.3 – Recognizing Automatic Behaviors: Automatic behaviors are the things you do without thinking, like grabbing your phone or snacking when bored. They often happen in the same places and times each day. Notice what happens right before the action, because that is the cue. Notice what you feel right after, because that is the reward. Writing these patterns down helps you see the hidden loop. Look for small clues like locations, people, or emotions that start the habit. Once you see the pattern, you can plan a different response. You might stand up, take a breath, or drink water instead. Practice swapping the routine while keeping the cue the same. With practice, your new action can become the new automatic.
