Lesson Overview

4.12 – How Habits Are Reinforced by Rewards: Habits grow stronger when your brain expects a reward after the behavior. This is called reinforcement. The habit loop follows three parts: cue, action, and reward. When the reward feels good, the brain repeats the loop automatically. You can use this system to build good habits or change bad ones. Replace harmful rewards with healthy ones that still satisfy the craving for pleasure or rest. Consistent reinforcement turns effort into automatic behavior. Once the loop becomes natural, motivation feels effortless because the reward is built in.
