Lesson Overview

4.8 – Listening Without Planning a Rebuttal: Many people listen just to respond, not to understand. Real listening means pausing your need to be right. When you stop planning your reply, your mind opens to new information. It helps you hear tone, feelings, and meaning that might have been missed. You can always respond later, but you can’t replay what you didn’t hear. Practicing this kind of patience builds self-control and empathy. It also prevents defensive back-and-forth battles. When the goal is understanding, not winning, both sides relax. Conversations become more about solving, less about scoring points. Letting go of the rebuttal gives space for truth to emerge.
