Lesson Overview

6.14 – Avoiding Codependency: Avoiding codependency means building relationships where care and support exist without losing your sense of individuality or balance. Codependency often forms when one person’s happiness depends entirely on another’s approval or well-being. Breaking this pattern starts with self-awareness—understanding that you are responsible for your own emotions, choices, and growth. Healthy relationships involve mutual respect, where each person maintains their identity while offering support. Setting emotional boundaries and practicing self-care prevents over-involvement in others’ problems. Learning to say no, even when it’s uncomfortable, protects your stability. Recognizing that helping doesn’t mean rescuing keeps relationships healthier. Avoiding codependency allows you to love and support others freely, without losing yourself in the process. Over time, independence and empathy can coexist, creating balanced, fulfilling relationships that promote growth rather than dependency or emotional exhaustion.
