Lesson Overview

1.2 – The Difference Between Feedback and Criticism: Feedback focuses on behavior and change, while criticism blames the person. Feedback says what happened and what could be better, but criticism attacks who someone is. Feedback uses facts and examples, and criticism uses harsh words and judgment. Feedback invites a conversation, and criticism shuts people down. Feedback respects feelings, and criticism often ignores them. Feedback is about growth, and criticism is about shame. Feedback builds safety, and criticism creates fear. Feedback looks forward to solutions, and criticism stays stuck on the problem. When people learn this difference, they talk with more care and respect. That is how progress begins.
