Lesson Overview

1.5 – The Emotional Impact of Giving and Receiving Feedback: Feedback can stir nerves, pride, and fear, even when it is kind. The giver may worry about hurting feelings or starting a fight. The receiver may feel defensive, embarrassed, or misunderstood. These feelings are normal and do not mean something is wrong. Calm tone and gentle words can lower the heat. Taking pauses helps the brain stay open to new ideas. Naming the feeling can make it smaller and less scary. Appreciation for effort can balance hard parts of the message. Clear next steps can replace shame with hope. With practice, feedback can feel supportive, not scary.
