Lesson Overview

3.2 – Recognizing Defensive Reactions in Yourself: Defense often hides behind quick excuses, raised voices, or shutting down. It can also look like changing the subject or joking to avoid discomfort. These reactions are natural when your brain feels unsafe or blamed. The first step is noticing the signs in your body, like tight shoulders or fast heartbeat. Naming the feeling—anger, fear, embarrassment—helps calm it. Once you spot your defenses, you can slow down before reacting. Choosing curiosity over pride keeps the talk from becoming a fight. Defensive moments are signals, not failures. They show where trust and understanding need attention. Awareness helps you respond wisely instead of automatically.
