Lesson Overview

7.3 – How to Avoid “Empty” or Defensive Apologies: Empty apologies sound like “I’m sorry, but…” or “I didn’t mean it that way.” They shift focus away from accountability. Defensive apologies try to protect pride instead of healing pain. Avoiding these means slowing down and checking your intention. Say sorry because you value the relationship, not because you want to move on fast. Keep it simple and genuine, like “I realize that hurt you, and I want to do better.” Listen to the response without arguing. Actions afterward must match the words. Real apologies repair; empty ones repeat the hurt.
