Lesson Overview

3.4 – Practicing Grounding When Urges Rise: Grounding techniques bring the mind back to the present when urges feel overwhelming. This involves reconnecting with physical sensations, sights, sounds, or textures around you. By naming what you see, hear, and feel, you anchor yourself in the moment instead of drifting into impulse. Deep breathing, feeling the floor beneath your feet, or holding a familiar object can restore calm. Grounding helps regulate emotions by activating logic over panic. It reminds you that cravings are temporary sensations, not emergencies. Practiced regularly, grounding becomes an automatic recovery reflex, reducing relapse risk and restoring inner control.
