Lesson Overview

5.2 – Practicing Assertive Speech Without Aggression: Assertive speech means speaking your truth with confidence but without hostility. It’s about communicating your needs, wants, and limits in a way that values both your voice and the other person’s. Many people confuse assertiveness with aggression, but the difference lies in tone, respect, and empathy. Assertive language uses calm statements like “I feel” or “I prefer,” focusing on self-expression rather than accusation. Practicing assertiveness involves controlling your emotional responses while maintaining clarity and self-respect. It creates space for genuine understanding, reducing defensiveness. Over time, assertive communication becomes a leadership skill—allowing you to express boundaries clearly while keeping relationships collaborative rather than combative.
