Lesson Overview

10.11 – How to Handle Unexpected Interruptions: Unexpected interruptions can derail focus faster than almost anything else, especially when you’re deep in thought or managing multiple tasks. Each time your attention breaks, your brain needs extra energy to refocus, which increases stress and fatigue. The key to handling interruptions is not to eliminate them but to manage how you respond. First, pause before reacting—this short gap gives your mind space to decide if the interruption is urgent or can wait. Use gentle boundaries, such as “I’ll help in ten minutes” or “Can this wait until I’m done?” These phrases protect your focus without sounding dismissive. Create short reset rituals, like taking one deep breath or jotting down where you left off. When you practice regaining control after each disruption, your mental flow stays intact longer. Over time, this discipline strengthens concentration and prevents small interruptions from snowballing into overload.
