6.5 – Using Check-Ins to Stay on Task: Check-ins are brief, scheduled moments where you ask, “What am I doing, and is it working?” Set a simple timer every ten to fifteen minutes, then adjust your pace, posture, or plan if needed. If you’re stuck, define a tiny next step you can finish in two minutes, like writing one sentence or labeling one diagram. If you’re rushing, slow down and mark the top priority so your effort stays aligned. Keep check-ins kind and factual, not harsh or dramatic. Record one quick note—what helped, what didn’t—so you build a map of what keeps you steady. Over time, check-ins become automatic and gentle, like a coach’s tap on the shoulder. They keep your attention honest, your stress lower, and your progress measurable.
