Lesson Overview

1.2 – Exploring How Roles Shift Over Time: Think about how roles changed from childhood to now, and write a short timeline of key transitions like starting a job, moving homes, or new family members. Notice who gained tasks and who lost support during each change. Ask, “What did I start doing automatically, and what did I stop doing without meaning to?” Identify one outdated expectation you’re still carrying, such as always being the peacemaker or the planner. Invite the family to discuss what feels fair today, not five years ago. Practice flexible routines by rotating one responsibility weekly. When stress rises, name the shift out loud, like “We’re in finals season; let’s lighten chores.” Build a quarterly check-in to rebalance tasks. Keep compassion at the center, since change can feel risky. End with gratitude for effort, not perfection.
