Lesson Overview

1.9 – How Sibling Roles Influence Adult Behavior: Think about childhood roles like “the responsible one,” “the rebel,” or “the peacemaker,” and notice where those scripts still show up today. Write examples of when the old role helped and when it caused stress. Practice stepping out of the role in low-risk moments first. Share with siblings how you’re trying new ways to show up. Set boundaries if old teasing or labels return. Create new traditions that honor each sibling’s current strengths. Avoid comparing current achievements to old stories. Use “both/and” language: you can be dependable and playful, direct and kind. Celebrate updated identities during family gatherings. Keep reflecting on progress, especially after big life changes. Changing sibling roles takes time, patience, and steady practice anchored in respect.
