Lesson Overview

1.7 – Navigating Expectations in Close Relationships: List the expectations you hold that no one can see—how texts should be answered, how often to help, or what “on time” means. Sort them into must-haves, nice-to-haves, and personal preferences. Share them clearly, one topic at a time, using simple “I need” statements. Ask the other person to list theirs, and look for overlaps and conflicts. Turn vague hopes into small, trackable actions. Agree on check-in times for busy weeks. When disappointment appears, name it without blame and restate the request. Build a repair habit: apologize, adjust, and try again. Keep expectations realistic during stress periods. Post shared agreements somewhere visible. Review them after milestones, since life changes needs. Relationships thrive when expectations are honest, negotiated, and lived with kindness.
