6.7 – Helping Kids Understand “No” as Healthy: Teach children early that “no” is a word of self-respect, not rudeness; encourage them to say “no” when they feel uncomfortable and praise them for speaking up; use role-play to practice saying “no” politely but firmly; explain that others have the right to say “no” as well, and it must be respected; show them how to set limits with friends, siblings, and even adults in safe situations; reassure them that adults still guide safety rules, but personal boundaries for their body and time are important; modeling by using your own boundaries helps them learn by example; children who understand “no” grow into teens and adults who protect their emotional and physical safety with confidence.
