Lesson Overview

1.25 – Grooming by a Friend, Mentor, or Family Member: Grooming doesn’t always come from strangers — it can come from people you already know and trust, like a coach, teacher, or even a family member. These individuals might use their closeness or authority to gain control. They may start by offering help, attention, or advice, then slowly cross boundaries. Because they seem trustworthy, it can be confusing to recognize their behavior as wrong. That’s what makes grooming so dangerous — it often hides behind care or affection. Real mentors or friends respect your limits and never ask for secrecy or physical contact. If someone older makes you feel uncomfortable or asks for private favors, it’s okay to speak up and tell a trusted adult. Abuse can happen in any relationship, but awareness helps stop it. Protecting yourself means trusting your instincts and knowing that respect never involves manipulation or fear.
