Lesson Overview

1.41 – Who to Tell First (Safe Adults): Choosing the right person to tell about something serious can make all the difference in how supported you feel. Safe adults are people who listen without judgment and help protect your safety, like a parent, counselor, teacher, or trusted family friend. They don’t pressure you to stay quiet or make you feel guilty for what happened. A safe adult helps you make a plan, get medical care if needed, and connect with the right resources. It’s okay if you need time to figure out who that person is. Sometimes you might start by writing down names of people who make you feel calm and respected. The most important thing is that they take you seriously. Safe adults understand confidentiality but also know when to call for help if you’re in danger. When you open up to someone trustworthy, it becomes easier to breathe again and know you’re not alone. Telling one safe person can be the first step toward healing and protection.
