🛡️ Teen Boundaries, Consent, and the Law: What Teens Must Know About Sexual Misconduct *coming soon
Course overview
Lesson Overview

1.57 – You Didn’t “Let It Happen”: Many survivors blame themselves, thinking they should have done something differently. But trauma changes how the brain works, and in moments of threat, your body often takes control to protect you. Freezing, not fighting, or going along with something doesn’t mean you wanted it. It means your body tried to survive. Guilt and shame can twist your memories, making you question what really happened. But no one ever chooses to be harmed. You can start releasing self-blame by learning that survival responses are not consent. Understanding that you didn’t “let it happen” frees space to heal emotionally. Compassion toward yourself is a big part of recovery. Healing includes forgiving yourself for what was never your fault.
