🛡️ Teen Survival Guide for Police Encounters
Course overview
Lesson Overview

1.12 – When to Stay Still – and When You’re Allowed to Move: Movement control is survival control. Stay perfectly still unless told otherwise, especially if an officer’s hands are near their weapon. If you must move — to reach ID, phone, or registration — ask permission first and wait for the “okay.” Move slowly with visible hands. If you’re injured or uncomfortable, say, “I need to move for safety — is that okay?” Sudden movements confuse and escalate. Stillness sends a signal of respect and reduces tension. When you’re calm, the officer’s pulse slows too. Mastering when to pause and when to act is a life skill — it can mean the difference between danger and survival.
