🛡️ Teen Survival Guide for Police Encounters
Course overview
Lesson Overview

1.2 – What to Do If You’re Pulled Over While Driving: When you see lights behind you, signal and pull over safely to the right side as soon as possible. Keep both hands on the wheel where they’re visible, and wait for the officer to approach. Do not reach for your license or phone until told to. Roll your window down partway so you can communicate clearly. Stay respectful and avoid arguing about the reason for the stop on the roadside. If you disagree, deal with it later through a complaint or court, not during the encounter. Tell passengers to stay quiet and still. If you feel unsafe, you may request another officer or to move to a well-lit area. Always remember the goal is to get through the stop alive and without making it worse. Let every move you make show you value your safety and theirs.
