23.3 – Proper Cool-Down Sequence: Cooling down after a workout is just as essential as warming up, even though many people skip it. A proper cool-down helps your body gradually shift back to its resting state instead of stopping suddenly. Light movement like walking or gentle stretching keeps your blood flowing, lowers your heart rate, and reduces dizziness or tightness. Your muscles are warm and more flexible at this point, making it the ideal time to stretch and release tension. Taking five to ten minutes to cool down also helps flush out lactic acid and reduce soreness the next day. It’s a moment to reset mentally, acknowledge your effort, and treat your body with care. Ignoring this step can lead to muscle stiffness, tight tendons, or delayed pain that interferes with your next session. Over time, consistently cooling down can increase mobility, aid recovery, and make your workouts feel more complete. Just like you don’t slam on the brakes in a car, you don’t want to slam the brakes on your body. A proper cool-down finishes the job the right way and keeps you moving forward safely.
