Lesson Overview

1.2 – Types of Crises: Emotional, Behavioral, and Situational: Crises can show up in different forms that affect feelings, actions, and surroundings. Emotional crises happen when sadness, anger, or fear overwhelm reason. Behavioral crises appear as sudden outbursts, withdrawal, or impulsive acts that feel uncontrollable. Situational crises stem from outside events like losing a job, conflict, or accidents that shake stability. Sometimes all three connect, making stress more complex to handle. By naming the type of crisis you face, you can find clearer ways to cope. Each type needs a different response—some call for comfort, others for structure or problem-solving. Understanding these types builds compassion for yourself and others. It reminds you that behavior is often a message of distress, not defiance. When you can see which type is unfolding, you can guide the situation toward safety and calm. Awareness of the three kinds helps you act instead of react.
