Lesson Overview

1.44 – Crisis Behavior in Children vs. Adults: Children and adults both experience crisis, but they show it differently. Children often act out through behavior because they lack words for feelings. Adults may hide distress behind control or silence. Understanding these differences prevents misjudgment and builds empathy. Both need safety, patience, and reassurance to calm down. For children, structure and gentle guidance restore balance. For adults, validation and problem-solving help rebuild control. Age changes expression, not emotion. Recognizing that behavior equals communication allows quicker support. Meeting people where they are emotionally creates true de-escalation.
