Lesson Overview

1.20 – Why Some People Shut Down Under Pressure: Shutting down is a form of self-protection when emotions become too much to process. The body slows, the voice quiets, and thinking freezes to avoid overload. Some people go silent or withdraw to stay safe inside themselves. This is different from ignoring others—it’s often an automatic reaction. Recognizing this helps you or others avoid judgment and focus on calm. Gentle support, not pressure, helps the person re-engage. Understanding that shut-downs are signs of distress changes how we respond to them. By creating safety and patience, you help energy return naturally. Everyone needs different kinds of space to recover from pressure.
