Lesson Overview

5.4 – Crossing at Marked Crosswalks Only: Marked crosswalks exist for a reason—they show drivers where to watch for pedestrians. Using them helps traffic flow smoothly and predictably. Crossing outside these areas, called jaywalking, increases risk of accidents. Crosswalks are often placed near lights, signs, or schools for extra safety. Even in a crosswalk, always check both directions first. Wait for all cars to stop fully before crossing. If crossing at night, make sure you are visible with bright clothing. Using marked areas teaches responsibility and awareness. When you cross where it’s safe, you protect yourself and others. Consistent use of crosswalks keeps travel predictable and secure.
