2.3 – Learning How to Make Calls and Inquiries for Support: Calling a resource for help is a skill that builds confidence and independence. Before making the call, it helps to write down what you want to ask so you feel prepared. Speaking clearly and politely shows respect and makes communication easier. If you don’t understand something, asking the person to repeat or explain is totally okay. Sometimes you may need to leave a voicemail, so practicing what to say can help you feel calm. Keeping a notebook to track names, numbers, and information prevents confusion later. The more you make calls, the more natural it feels. Reaching out shows courage and responsibility when you need support. Learning how to communicate your needs is a big step in self-advocacy. A simple phone call can open doors to opportunities and helpful services.
