4.3 – How Volunteering Benefits Mental Health: Helping others has a powerful effect on mental and emotional well-being. Volunteering gives you a sense of purpose and accomplishment that boosts self-esteem. Being around supportive people helps reduce stress and feelings of loneliness. Positive social interactions create happiness and remind you that you are valued. Doing good deeds releases “feel-good” chemicals in the brain that improve your mood. When you focus on helping others, you take a break from your own worries. Volunteering can also inspire hope, especially when you see the impact of your actions. Being appreciated by others reminds you that your presence matters. These benefits support resilience when life becomes challenging. Giving to others ends up giving you strength, too.
