Lesson Overview

3.6 – Teaching Words for Complex Emotions: Some feelings mix together and feel confusing. Teach words like jealous, lonely, overwhelmed, and relieved. Give simple examples that fit your child’s world. Use “feeling scales” to show strong or light levels. Compare feelings to colors, weather, or music to make sense. Practice sentences starters like “I feel… because…”. Offer choices when words are hard to find. Write feeling words on cards to pick from. Praise any try at naming a tricky feeling. More words mean more control and calmer choices.
