8.3 – Teaching Emotional Words in Early Childhood: Early childhood is the perfect time to expand feeling vocabulary. Start with basic emotions, then add complex ones like frustrated, proud, or nervous. Use storybooks and everyday moments to teach meanings. Point out emotions you see in others kindly. Ask children to show feelings through faces or drawings. Reinforce that all emotions are okay, even the uncomfortable ones. Model using “I feel” statements during daily life. Praise honesty about inner experiences. Connect feelings to body sensations to increase awareness. Knowing many feeling words helps children understand themselves and others deeply.
