Lesson Overview

4.13 – Understanding Social Contracts: A social contract is the unspoken agreement between citizens and government. It promises safety, rights, and services in exchange for compliance and contribution. Breaking the contract through corruption or apathy harms all sides. Citizens maintain it by following laws, paying taxes, and voting. Governments honor it through fairness, transparency, and accountability. Knowing this mutual exchange encourages realistic expectations. When either side fails, reform and dialogue restore balance. Teach others that freedom without duty collapses trust. Rebuilding contracts begins with personal integrity. The social contract is the invisible handshake that holds democracy together.
