Lesson Overview

7.4 – Identifying Microaggressions: Microaggressions are small but harmful comments or actions rooted in stereotypes. They often sound like compliments but carry hidden insults. Examples include “You speak good English” or “You’re different from the others.” Recognizing them requires awareness, not shame. Pause when someone seems hurt by your words and listen openly. Apologize without excuses if you unintentionally offend. Learn what phrases are considered insensitive through honest dialogue. When you experience a microaggression, decide calmly how to respond. Education and empathy are stronger than anger alone. Reducing microaggressions makes environments safer and more inclusive.
