Lesson Overview

4.3 – Paraphrasing and Reflecting Back What You Heard: Paraphrasing means restating someone’s words in your own way. It shows that you listened carefully and understood their meaning. You might say, “So you’re saying you felt left out at work?” This helps the speaker feel seen and prevents miscommunication. Reflection adds empathy by naming their feelings gently. It can sound like, “That sounds frustrating” or “You seem proud of that.” Paraphrasing also slows down tense moments before reacting. It gives time for both people to think clearly. It builds trust through accuracy and care. Repeating and reflecting turns talking into teamwork.
