🛡️ Teen Survival Guide for Police Encounters
Course overview
Lesson Overview

2.20 – When Can a Cop Use a Taser on You Legally?: Police can only use a taser if they believe you’re a threat to safety or resisting arrest. Tasers are meant to stop movement, not to punish. If you stay calm, keep your hands visible, and follow lawful orders, it’s less likely to happen. Never argue physically or pull away — that can make them think you’re resisting. If you are tased, don’t fight or shout; let them know you need medical attention. Afterward, document everything — the officer’s name, badge number, and what happened before and after. Tasers can cause injuries, and medical records may protect you later. Remember that the law doesn’t allow officers to use more force than necessary. Staying peaceful, clear, and steady gives you the best chance to avoid escalation and keep your dignity intact, even in stressful situations.
