🛡️ Teen Survival Guide for Police Encounters
Course overview
Lesson Overview

2.6 – When They Want to Search Your Phone – Say This: Your phone contains your whole life – messages, photos, contacts, and more. Police need a warrant to go through it in most cases. If they ask to look, say calmly, “I do not consent to a search of my phone.” Even if you have nothing to hide, they might misinterpret something. Don’t unlock it or hand it over unless a court order demands it. If they take your phone anyway, do not resist physically – just note the officer’s name and badge number. Later, a lawyer can challenge the search if it was illegal. Staying calm and silent protects you far better than arguing. Your digital privacy is a right, not a favor.
