🛡️ Teen Survival Guide for Police Encounters
Course overview
Lesson Overview

3.12 – Can Teachers or Staff Search You or Your Stuff?: Teachers and staff can search if they suspect rule-breaking, but limits exist. They must have “reasonable suspicion,” not just curiosity. You can ask what they’re looking for and why. Stay polite and avoid arguing. Don’t give consent unless necessary. If you feel unsafe, request another adult present. Never hide or destroy evidence—it only makes things worse. Keep your phone recording nearby if allowed by policy. Tell your parents after the search. Knowing your boundaries helps you stay confident and safe in school environments.
