1.5 – How Laws Protect Individual Freedom: Laws exist not to take freedom away but to protect it for everyone. Without laws, stronger people could dominate weaker ones, and chaos would replace fairness. Good laws set boundaries that keep rights safe while giving you space to make your own choices. They ensure that you can express your opinions, practice your beliefs, and move freely without fear. Laws also prevent others from violating your safety, privacy, or dignity. When you follow the law, you are part of a social agreement that allows communities to function peacefully. Understanding how laws protect freedom helps you see that justice is built on cooperation, not control. It shows that freedom works best when it’s shared equally. When people know and respect the rules that protect their liberty, society becomes safer, more stable, and more respectful for everyone.
