Lesson Overview

6.2 – Rights and Duties of Tenants and Landlords: Both tenants and landlords have legal rights and responsibilities that create balance and fairness in housing. Tenants have the right to a safe, habitable home and privacy from unreasonable entry. Landlords have the right to receive rent on time and to expect property care from tenants. You must follow community rules, report repairs promptly, and avoid damaging the property. Likewise, landlords must make necessary repairs, follow legal notice procedures, and avoid discrimination. Both parties benefit when communication is clear and documented. Knowing these mutual obligations prevents misunderstandings and builds trust. Responsible tenants and professional landlords create environments where respect replaces conflict. When each side honors their role, housing becomes a partnership grounded in fairness, legality, and shared accountability.
