Lesson Overview

3.12 – Using Advocates or Interpreters If Needed: Advocates and interpreters exist to make sure everyone can understand and be understood, especially in complex legal environments. If English isn’t your first language or you have trouble expressing yourself, requesting an interpreter is your right. Advocates help explain legal processes, protect your interests, and communicate clearly on your behalf. When working with them, speak slowly, stay patient, and confirm that your words are translated correctly. Always face the judge or official, not the interpreter, when speaking. Using assistance doesn’t make you weak—it shows you care about accuracy and fairness. The goal is full understanding, not pride. Advocates and interpreters bridge gaps that ensure justice is truly equal for all.
