Lesson Overview

5.6 – Recognizing Harassment and Discrimination at Work: Harassment and discrimination have no place in a healthy workplace, and recognizing them early is vital. Harassment includes unwanted behavior—verbal, physical, or digital—that creates a hostile environment. Discrimination happens when someone is treated unfairly because of race, gender, age, or other protected traits. Both are illegal under federal and state laws. Learn to identify patterns: jokes, exclusion, intimidation, or biased evaluations. Keep detailed records and report incidents through proper channels such as HR or compliance departments. You have the right to work without fear of retaliation. Respectful workplaces rely on awareness and accountability from everyone. When you recognize and address these behaviors, you help create cultures where dignity, equality, and safety are the norm—not the exception.
